- How it Works
Lidocaine topical cream (75 mg/g) is a prescription-strength local anesthetic used to provide temporary relief of localized pain and discomfort by numbing the affected area.
It is commonly prescribed for:
- Localized nerve pain or hypersensitivity
- Minor musculoskeletal pain
- Post-procedural or post-injection discomfort
- Superficial neuropathic pain
- Pain associated with skin, soft tissue, or localized injury
Lidocaine cream is especially useful when pain is focal and surface-level, and when targeted relief is preferred over systemic therapy.

Lidocaine works by temporarily numbing those nerves at the site of application. When applied to the skin, lidocaine blocks pain signals before they can travel, helping reduce sensations such as pain, burning, or tenderness.
When applied topically:
- Lidocaine acts locally at peripheral nerve endings
- Inhibits depolarization of sensory neurons
- Prevents pain signal conduction along nerve fibers
This results in temporary loss of sensation in the treated area without affecting deeper tissues or the central nervous system when used as directed.
